Hi everyone!
Most of our guild members already know all of this information, but I wanted to share for noobs like me!
Once you hit level 10 your character can begin professions. Professions use hired artisans to craft class specific armors or earn money through mercenary work.
Use kits (Religion, Dungoneering, Thievery, Arcana, and Nature)
to collect a variety of materials for use in profession tasks. Kits cost 1 Silver, 50 Bronze each but your character will be proficient in one:
Both fighter types: dungeoneering
Trickster Rogue's: theivery
Devoted Clerics: religion
Control Wizards: arcana
You will have to purchase kits for nature, as they do not belong to a class.
The following classes should work with the matching professions for best results:
Platesmithing: Guardian Fighter
Mailsmithing: Devoted Cleric, Great Weapons Fighter
Leatherworking: Trickster Rogue, Scourage Warlock
Tailoring: Control Wizard
You can actually do any professions and sell your items at the auction house, or trade some of them with other players. Many people use this to make AD (Astral Diamonds) for other things. You can also use AD to finish your crafting quicker, or sometimes employ multiple workers on a job.
You will find that you will need to visit the market and find the professions vendor to buy other things for crafting tasks. These components fall into two categories: Resources and Assets.
Resources are items such as charcoal, rock salt, thread, solvents, porridge, and assets are items such as worn hammers, worn mallets, worn infantry weapons, and so on.
Crafting is tiered and you will have to craft your way up or buy items from the trade house. An example of a crafting tier would be for leatherworking: pelts and salt craft into leather, and then the leathers can craft into various items like a leather shirt. Then the shirt can be crafted with residuum to make a stronger shirt.
You can sort the crafts available by highest or lowest levels, and then filter the ones out that you do not have the required items. Keep and eye on those unmet ones to figure out what you need to purchase or craft to open those. Often you will see a set of RARE crafts and how long until it changes. If you have met the requirements they will be open to do. The items usually come out with higher stats making them more valuable.
Leadership is a profession in which you earn experience and money. You will hire mercenaries to do various jobs and once they level up, you will earn various rewards with them. Leadership shares no resources with any other tasks so you will need to acquire some of these items from packs or the trade house. There are various online posts where people state that Leadership is the slowest to level and a waste of time. I suppose it just depends on where you want to put your effort in.
In the Zen Market, you can find some Professions packs under the Items sub tab. There is a Professions Booster pack that has various resources and assets. A Professions Asset Pack, a Black Ice Shaping pack available after you unlock Icewind Dale. I prefer to buy things with AD through the Trade House. If you are patient you can bid on items, and if you are in a hurry you might just find what you need with a buy out option!
If anyone else has anything to add, that would be awesome! Happy Crafting!
